In addition to having the grade of shihan - master level instructor - Gillian is also a former Australian judo champion, representing Australia at several world championships. She officiated in judo at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Gillian travels twice yearly to Japan to train with Dr Hatsumi and other senior Japanese bujinkan instructors (shihan), primarily Nagato Shihan and Noguchi Shihan. Gillian has also studied self-defence, hapkido and kungfu. She has developed self-defence curricula for the NSW Health Department and schools.

TOWNSVILLE DOJO

The Townsville group has been training since Jan 2004 under the guidance of Greg Hinks , Shidoshi . Greg has been training in the martial arts since 1972 , when he started judo at the Aitkenvale PYC . In march 1983 he left Townsville , moving to Port Macquarie and within 2 weeks had taken up Togakure ryu ninpo with the Roy dojo . In 1984 he moved to Sydney where he started training with the Roy school there at Artarmon , then north Sydney and central station [ the Tokyo tailor ]. In October 1989 he then moved to Perth and immediately started training with the group there , which was under the guidance of Steve Revnak , who had left the roy organization and was training in japan . After attending both of the Australian tai kai's in 92-3 , he passed his godan test in 1993 . He first traveled to japan in 1997 to train with Hatsumi sensei and his shihan , and since then due to his work in the building industry has been able to go back there every year for up to 3 months at a time . In 2003 he was recommended for judan whilst living in japan . He then decided to return to Townsville and start up a school , due to the lack of any schools in the North Queensland area . Unfortunately Townsville being so small has hindered chances of getting a good place to train , so we have been training outdoors and have been at our present location for 3 years .

Bujinkan Meden Dojo

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Welcome to our dojo website,

I hope we are able to provide you with an insight into the Japanese Samurai & Ninja warrior arts of the Bujinkan Dojo.

Originally much text was used but in the end, lengthy descriptions did little to convey the essence of what our art is really about, we are not martial entrepreneurs, martial actors / entertainers, or martial researchers, we are simply martial artists. A picture is said to be worth a thousand words so Iíve recently enhanced our photo gallery to convey the depth of our art by images rather than words. There is a saying ì..to only recite poetry with poets..î and I believe this pertains to all the arts. Without being involved in the practice of an art, it is very easily mis-understood. With photos there are still limitations, as the natural flow (vitality) of the movements is not visible.

The essence of our art cannot be expressed through words, images, video or such media as the internet, it is something more natural than that, it is a human feeling which only the heart can capture.

Same as Ed, Tim also lived in japan, he also makes excellent training weapons which can be purchased from his website.
